Bill Gates Versus Steve Jobs Comics: My Take
If you’ve never seen the Bill Gates vs. Steve Jobs comics, they’re pretty funny! Here’s an example of one:

Anyway, after looking at a bunch of them for the past day or so, I decided to cook one up of my own based on the one thing I think about the most when I get into debates with Apple bigots (no, I’m not saying that all people who use Apple products are bigots; I’m just talking about the Apple fans who act high-and-mighty). If you don’t understand what I’m referencing in the comic, then take a few minutes to watch the video clip I’ve posted just beneath it. It will all make sense then.
Anyway, here is my spin on the Bill Gates versus Steve Jobs comics:

And that’s it! If you’re interested in cooking up your own, I’ve provided a template below. The first comic that I posted at the top and the template below are courtesy of these guys.

Windows Phone 7: The Story I Almost Missed
Apparently, Verizon’s employees aren’t very educated with Windows Phone 7 yet. I recently purchased an HTC Incredible (I’ll get a WP7 device one day, but desperately needed something more modern than my LG Dare what with social media being the way it is these days and all), but just prior to making that purchasing decision, I decided to see what the response would be from the guy trying to make the sale when asking him about Windows Phone devices that are supposed to hit the market at the end of the year. His response? “No. No, no, no… you don’t want a Windows Mobile device. They’re horrible.”
The Microsoft evangelist in me wanted to educate him a bit on Windows Phone 7, but I decided to inquire more. He basically noted all the pitfalls we’ve seen with previous iterations of Windows Mobile and assumed the next revision would be exactly the same. I told him it’s supposed to be a lot better and started to go into why, but I could tell he didn’t really care. His thoughts looked to be something to the effect of, “yeah, that’s what they say about every version that’s about to be released.” Ergo, I decided the battle would be best fought another day. With a different opponent. On a completely different battlefield.
With that in mind, the story I almost missed was the chance to write about the stigma that’s already carrying over from Windows Mobile to Windows Phone 7. Instead of excitement and intrigue, this guy made Windows Phone 7 sound like it was going to be worth its weight in pyrite (aka, “fool’s gold”). Had I been any other clueless buyer, I might have taken his recommendations (or lack thereof) and passed them on to friends and family — ensuring a no-sale from all I spread the word to.
The question it brings to mind is how Microsoft will choose to market Windows Phone 7. I know it’s not really a big deal at the moment and the only people inquiring about WP7 are those who are either already informed (like me) or have formed an opinion either way, regardless of how informed said opinion may or may not be. I did notice the Kin setup in Verizon a couple of weeks ago — a kiosk-type of setup with banners, lcd displays running promotional videos, phones set up that you can play with, etc. — so I’m going to take a wild guess that Microsoft will hit the marketing pretty hard once devices are ready to roll out. Hopefully, they’ll get with the right company, because Google is killing it right now with Android (and I’ve got to say, I’m a full-on believer now from owning my HTC Incredible since its release — I LOVE this phone) and I’m sure Apple’s got something up their sleeves for the upcoming iteration of the iPhone.
Perhaps a WP7 representative in a bunch of stores like they did with Windows 7 and Best Buy?

The iPad: A Breeding Ground for iNspiration!
iThink the iPad is the perfect breeding ground for iNspiration! The testing bed for this theory (we’ll call it my… iTheory, if you will) of mine is apparently my Twitter account, where iHave seemingly taken a liking to posting one pun after another (we’ll call them… iPuns) in regards to the iPad. Yes, the iPad has become a “magical and revolutionary” device (Steve Jobs’ words, not mine)… but not in the sense of actually using the darn thing! In fact, iHave had so much fun with this, iThought iWould share some of my favorites the iPad has allowed me to brainstorm on Twitter. Minor additions will follow:
“iPad… Is that Apple’s attempt at Thai cuisine?” – Yes, indeed! There are treasures of tasty morsels to behold in Apple’s iPad Thai and iPad See Ew (pronounced, “see you,” which is what the iPad will NOT be doing since it doesn’t even have a built-in camera)!
“iPun on the iPad while listening to my iPod” – That one’s self-explanatory and really, really stupid, but… it was funny in the moment!
“iPad Thai, iPadma Lakshmi, Lilly iPad. Why don’t you crash at my iPad, San Diego iPadres… These doing anything for anyone? lol.” – @seraph_ben on Twitter made a good suggestion with this one, “change ‘my pad’ to MiPad.” Indeed, sir!
“I love how Steve Jobs called the iPad “revolutionary.” There’s nothing revolutionary about a big-ass iPhone! *EV*olutionary, maybe…” which I then followed up with, “[a]ctually, it’s not even an oversized iPhone… it’s a ginormous iPod Touch! iPad Touch, iPod Touch… who’s keeping track of these things?” – This one actually brings me to a good point. This thing really is just a ginormous iPod touch… and from what iCan tell so far, it’s not even as functional as one! Time will tell.
And last but not least, my favorite revelation the iPad allowed my brain to observe:
“iPad iPed iPid iPod iPud – The vowels recited in Apple’s iLanguage, 2 out of 5 are actual products! (Oh, and sometimes iPyd)” – That says it all!
And that, my friends, is how the iPad — this new “magical and revolutionary” device (Steve Jobs’ words, not mine) — is truly a breeding ground for iNspiration! =) And one more thing iPointed out on Twitter, iThink this guy had it right all along:
(or, in the case of this picture, iPhone)
