Come on guys. The whole “backlight problem” thing is a bul***t. I use my laptop all the time. In dark and light conditions. Sometimes from early morning till late night. And as long as I control the contrast – I have NO PROBLEMS. No, my eyes do not hurt me. I do not even wear glasses. I could join the airforce, they said (hopefull I didn’t ).

So yes, it will kill the hopeless monochromatic device with no touchscreen and weird book buy/rental rules. Buckle your seatbelts Dorothy, because Kindle is saing bye-bye!

And yes, I realize I just put down *any* tablet device, but this is what I’ve always said about them. They will suck regardless if they’re from Apple, Microsoft, or any other designer. It’s not about lacking software although locking it to the App Store alone sure doesn’t help. It’s about the form factor. Again – you can’t carry it with you conveniently (a phone is better for that), and if you don’t need to carry it with you, well what the hell are you looking at small pricey tablet computers for anyway?

It would be interesting if Apple came up with some sort of device that could fold up. They could use the added space for a real keyboard for some great tactile feedback, and then a multitouch pad for interaction, so you don’t have to reach for the scre… Oh wait!

IMO, Steve is missing the worst disadvantage of all, despite that list. It’s not portable. You can’t carry it with you somewhere without a bag => a laptop is far more powerful and runs arbitrary applications. And if you don’t need to carry it => laptop or stationary computer. Once again far more powerful.

Maybe as a competitor for Amazon Kindle and such things, but it wasn’t really designed for that. The backlit screen will cause eye strain, and you will have thrown lots of money down the drain for wasted features.

And unlike the iPhone criticism, that was merely nits – yes, it still doesn’t have a camera flash etc, but it still fills a niche for Apple. This doesn’t fill a niche for Apple, nor any other computer manufacturer, in my opinion.

You know what you all guys said about iPhone?

Does it support mp3′s as ringtone? Nope
Does it support Stereo bluetooth? Nope (WTF with that anyway?)
Can it record video? Nope
Does it support MMS? Nope

And so on. And what? These opinions were an… EPIC FAIL. Now everybody else can smell Iphone’s farts. IF they get close enough. And this itself can be a challenge. Hold yer horses

Epic fail. The whole Isomething naming scheme is played, it wasn’t that great when HP introduced it with the Ipaq it didnt get better when apple stole it after finally dropping the terrible I think there for I mac (back in the os 8 and 9 days) I mean my friends and I used to joke I crash therefore I mac. Its time for it to go it sounded 2000′ish and futuristic back in the late 90′s.

So let’s recap the iPad failings:

No Flash
No pen input for writing or drawing
No multitasking
No 3G carriers with good networks (Verizon)
No major software advancements
No major hardware advancements
Specs below netbooks of the same price
$130 for 3G option… really Apple? $130 for a 3G radio?
Steep price for top end model w/ 3G
No expansion ports, memory slots
No camera, thus no pix or video conference
No SMS app? No VOIP app?

Props to Apple:

IPS screen
Data pricing with AT&T w/ no contract (really, no Verizon though?)
Pretty apps
Fairly nice lookin hardware (big ass bezel)

Wondering:
1080p h.264?
Details on Apple made silicon – ARM A9 design?
RAM?

Overall: big diappointment
